Portrait Painting

Life has a beautiful way of surprising us, sprinkling moments of magic when we least expect them. In today’s ever-widening web of connections, it is remarkable how we can reconnect with friends after decades apart.

Meeting a dear friend again—albeit virtually—after nearly half a century was such a joy. The familiar dimple in her cheeks and the unmistakable twinkle in her eyes remained just as I remembered, unchanged in time and spirit, instantly lighting up my heart.   That cherished familiarity inspired me to paint her portrait.

Portrait painting has always brought me deep satisfaction and delight. Capturing the likeness and emotion of a living, multi-dimensional person on a two-dimensional canvas is both a challenge and a thrill—made complete when I see my muse recognize herself in the work.

My Pet Lab Retriever painting

Recently my pet Labrador Retriever has become my willing muse to most of my water color paintings. Not a penny spent for getting her to pose. Mostly clicks turned into paintings, as she is not very cooperative where staying still for me is concerned.

Here is a few of them

They are all water color paintings on paper of size -9x6 inches.

Visit pixels.com to view or collect prints of these paintings; or products with these artworks printed on them. T shirts and mobile cases with this artwork are quite the rage for pet owners and lovers.

Upcoming Art Show - Invitation- Celebration of Human Colors

Happy to be a participating artist in this upcoming portrait art show called 'Celebration of Human Colors' starting 14th November 2019 through 20th November 2019.

It is one of a kind show, a brain child of Curator Mrs Shyamala Ramanand. Having done research on Karnataka Portrait artists, she has collected some of the best of them and they will be on display in this portrait art show. Also on display will be works of distinguished present day portrait artists and upcoming portrait artists. I am a part of this show as the selection committee believed that I fit into the last category.

I am indeed glad this is going to be a portrait show, as I have done quite a few of them including some family portraits. I never thought an opportunity would come along when I would be displaying them publicly.

If you happen to be in Bangalore, please do visit. do not miss.

M F Husain lives on - A painting tribute

He was a man who had lived life to the fullest, and has passed away today to live on forever. A painting tribute to him.  I did this portrait of him just now, even as I was watching about the news on TV

Portrait of my Mother

In memory of my mother who had loved and lived well. Painting one's own family involves a lot of feelings. I just hoped to capture the radiance and love she always spread when she entered a room with her million dollar smile.

Project painting - 'Portrait of the Kaneri flower' - Oleander portrait

A 'Close Encounter' with a flower happened when I painted this close-up of the 'kaneri flower' - also called Oleander flower in English -  to send it as an entry to a project called 'Portrait of a flower'. This is an acrylic painting of size 10.5"x 7.5".
This April project was set by Marion Boddy-Evans - the Guide to painting on the about.com website. The about.com website is a New York Times Company undertaking, and is a treasure trove of information for many subjects including painting.
I am very happy to note that Marion Boddy Evans has liked my painting. She has especially liked the background texture created by variation in color and tones. She has made special mention of the shadow of this flower. She says that 'this is a shadow with visual intrigue in color and mark making'. She has also noted that I have not used black color to paint the shadow of the flower. I have infact used darker shades of purples and pinks to create the shadow.

Portrait of Shantharam

'Shantharam' is an oil painting of size 12"x8.5".

My husband willingly agreed to pose for a portrait I wanted to do of him on the condition that he will not pose unnaturally for it. So I took a few photos of him from various angles, even as he was watching his favourite Hindi serials on the TV, and did this painting. He conceded that it looked like him!
