Saalu Marada Thimmakka - Padmashree Awardee - Art show at Jaynagar Bengaluru

It was with great happiness I agreed instantly when Curator/Artist Jagdish Kadur requested me to paint on the subject of 2019 Padmashree Awardee Thimmakka who has made ours a greener planet to live in.

'Saalu Marada Thimmakka' literally means - Thimmakka of Wayside Trees.

Thimmakka is a 107 years young lady who has been planting and nurturing trees all through her lifetime, and is still doing it. She had undergone many a mental trauma due to rejection from the conservative society that she lived in the village side as she never begot children. But Thimmakka and her husband took life as a challenge and planted thousands of trees on the wayside of the highway from her village, leading to Kadur town in Karnataka.

It was a moment of pride for artist Jagdish Kadur hailing from the same town to honor her, and hence the art show came into being, with a number of artists (including me), depicting Thimmakka and her achievements on their canvas. As aritst Jagdish Kadur also runs an art school for children, they were also given the opportunity to paint and display in this wonderful art show.

The group art show 'Saalu Marada Thimmakka'  started 19th January 2020 goes through till 10th February 2020. Venue - Vinscent Art Galleria' Jaynagar Bengaluru. Please do visit.

With great pleasure, I share some memorable moments shared to me by artist Jagdish Kadur, as I was unable to attend the Inauguration which was graced by 'Thimmakka' herself. A wonderful moment in life that I have missed.
